Assessment for employable skills

The Uganda Vocational and Technical Assessment Board (UVTAB) is a national corporate body established by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Act No.3 of 2025, Section 77, Clause 2(a). UVTAB operates under the Ministry of Education and Sports and is responsible for the assessment and certification of competences obtained through formal and informal Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and development and management of TVET curriculum and training packages. Established in 2025, UVTAB is committed to building a reputation for high-quality assessment and certification of competences, providing individuals and the world of work with the requisite skills and knowledge needed to drive socio-economic transformation and national development.

Our foundation

A unified national assessment system

The TVET Act No.3 of 2025 merged the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) and Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB) to form Uganda Vocational and Technical Assessment Board (UVTAB). UBTEB and DIT were established by the BTVET Act 2008. UBTEB was mandated to streamline, regulate, coordinate and conduct credible national examinations, award certificates and Diplomas in Business, Technical and Vocational/Specialised education and training in Uganda, whereas DIT was mandated to develop occupational standards, regulate work-based training schemes, apply and expand the Uganda Vocational Qualifications Framework, accredit assessment centers, assess and award Uganda Vocational Qualifications.
